BSI, UKCA and Compliance Certificates for Cabinet Locks & Hardware

Ensuring Quality, Safety and Regulatory Compliance in the UK

In the UK industrial and electrical enclosure market, cabinet locks, hinges, handles and related hardware must meet recognised standards to ensure safety, reliability and legal compliance. Certifications such as BSI standards, UKCA marking, CE marking (where applicable), and relevant EN standards demonstrate that products have been tested and manufactured in accordance with strict technical and quality requirements.

At Factoryyard, our enclosure hardware solutions are designed and manufactured to comply with applicable UK and international standards. This ensures consistent performance in demanding industrial environments including electrical cabinets, telecom enclosures, data centres and machinery housings.

BSI Standards

The British Standards Institution (BSI) publishes and maintains many of the technical standards used in the UK. Compliance with relevant BS or BS EN standards confirms that cabinet hardware meets recognised benchmarks for durability, mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and operational safety. Depending on the product type, standards such as BS EN 1670 (corrosion resistance), BS EN 60529 (IP protection) and BS EN 1935 (hinge performance) may apply.

UKCA Marking

The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) mark is the product conformity marking required for goods placed on the market in Great Britain. Where applicable legislation requires it, UKCA marking confirms that the product complies with relevant UK regulations, such as electrical safety or electromagnetic compatibility requirements. For enclosure hardware used within electrical assemblies, UKCA may apply at the equipment level rather than the individual mechanical component level.

CE Marking

CE marking indicates conformity with European Union directives and harmonised standards. While primarily required for the EU market, CE-marked components are still widely recognised in international projects and may be used where permitted. For purely mechanical cabinet hardware, CE marking is often not mandatory unless the product falls within a specific regulated directive.

Declaration of Conformity (DoC)

A Declaration of Conformity is a formal document issued by the manufacturer confirming that the product meets applicable standards and regulatory requirements. For many cabinet hardware components, self-declaration supported by technical documentation and test reports is sufficient, unless third-party certification is specifically required by a project specification.

Additional Relevant Standards

Depending on the application, enclosure hardware may also be evaluated against:

  •
  • IP protection ratings for environmental sealing
  •
  • Corrosion resistance grades for harsh environments
  •
  • Mechanical endurance and cycle testing
  •
  • Material compliance requirements (such as RoHS)

Selecting certified and standards-compliant cabinet hardware helps ensure long service life, safety of electrical installations, and smooth approval in industrial and commercial projects across the UK.
